1880 Pattern Metric Dollar. Copper, reeded edge. Judd-1646. Pollock-1846. Low Rarity 6. NGC graded Proof 65 Red & Brown. A magnificent fiery red example. Liberty head by William Barber from the $50 of 1877 and later (like J-1617) with head facing left, wearing coronet inscribed LIBERTY and with top border of coronet ornamented with beads. Hair is wavy and thick, 13 stars at border, E PLURIBUS UNUM above and 1880 below. For the reverse a circle of dots at the center enclosing 895. S. / 4.2--G. / 100--C. / 25 GRAMS, this within an open wreath of wheat and cotton. DEO EST GLORIA in a cartouch above. Around border is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and ONE DOLLAR below.
