1878 Pattern Goloid Dollar. Copper, reeded edge. Judd-1559. Pollock-1751. High Rarity 7. NGC graded Proof 64 Red & Brown. Reddish tan with iridescent under tone. The obverse die by William Barber has a head of Liberty facing left with the word LIBERTY incuse on her headband. Date below and E PLURIBUS UNUM above with 13 stars. For the reverse the legend is above with 38 stars in a small circle wihin which is GOLOID 1 G / 24 S / 9 FINE / 258 GRS. and ONE DOLLAR below at the base. Of the three known planchets used, this copper one is the rarest. Pop 1; 3 finer, 1 in 65 RB; 1 in 65+ RB Cameo; 1 in 66 RB. (PCGS # 71921) Estimate Value $6,500 - UP
