1921 Mercury Dime. NGC graded MS-65 Full Bands. The United States economy went into a tailspin in 1920, because of the retooling from a war economy to a peace economy. Demand for products fell, and fewer transactions were undertaken. Hence, demand for coinage dropped, and only 1,230,000 dimes were produced at the Philadelphia Mint in 1921, one of the lowest mintages in years. Hoarders could scarcely locate rolls of these, as what few were produced entered circulation. Here is one that survived in gem condition, with a strong strike on the central reverse bands. NGC has graded 39 this high, with 13 graded higher, making this well up in the top 100 known. Frosty and bright, with no toning and no marks worthy of note. Struck from a cracked obverse die, with a fine crack just to the right of the R of LIBERTY, and a die line extending down from the back of Liberty's head.
Estimated Value $2,400 - 2,800.

Realized $2,530
