Lot 729

1853 Liberty Seated Dime. Arrows. NGC graded MS-65. A classic gem coin, the surfaces are steel gray with darker tones around the periphery, light at the centers. Always popular as a type coin, the with arrows were only used briefly to reduce the silver content of most silver denominations (except for the dollar, curiously) to below face value. Prior to 1853, silver had virtually disappeared from circulation, as it could be taken from circulation, melted down, and sold at a small profit.
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,400.

Realized $1,438
