1797 Draped Bust Dime. 13 stars. Sharpness of VF-20 but harshly cleaned and repaired. This coin should be viewed by prospective bidders before placing a bid. The surfaces have been entirely worked over to remove something, and we note the coin has no original surfaces remaining, perhaps from a light acid dip. The planchet has a slight bend to it, but this only is visible when the coin is rocked on a flat surface. The cleaning involved some sort of abrasive, as tiny scrapes and marks are present on many areas of the coin. Retoned to a pleasant silvery gray, with gold shades around the periphery. One minor scratch is noted past OF from the wreath to the rim, and a couple of smaller ones below the eagle in the clouds. Obviously not something for everyone, but it is what it is, a downright rare coin in any grade, which is seldom offered, and all too often seen similar to this one.
