1888 $3 Gold. PCGS graded MS-64. A rare coin with a mintage of just 5,000 pieces, and this is certainly in the top five percent of those. Satiny luster in the fields and free of most signs of contact, the grade apparently due to minor hairlines visible with a strong glass. PCGS has graded 92 as such, with 84 graded higher, apparently from a small hoard which came out many years ago. Despite the numbers, remember this is a rare coin in high grade, and there simply aren't that many available for the collecting public.
