1877 $3 Gold. Sharpness of VF-25 but repaired, buffed and cleaned. This one absolutely must be inspected by prospective buyers as the surfaces have been buffed and repaired to possibly fill a hole near the top of the obverse, and remove most of a scratch in that area. A dull matte surface is noted on both sides from cleaning and buffing, and this coin is not the top of its class. Nevertheless, it is a rare date, with a mintage of 1,488, few enough that it is seldom encountered in any grade.
