Lot 2085

1860-S $3 Gold. SEGS graded AU-53. Remnants of luster near the devices and well struck by the dies. We note that the SEGS grade may be a touch aggressive, but this is still a decent coin and certainly one of the better ones known of this date. PCGS has only graded a single example in Mint State, with few seen above EF-45 by that service. Curiously the San Francisco Mint struck lightweight Three Dollar coins in 1860, and when these were discovered, they were melted to the tune of 2,592, leaving a net mintage that was released from the Mint of 4,408. Rare in all grades, and especially so this nice. Minor circulation marks, but most collectors will be satisfied with this piece.
Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,500.

Realized $1,783
