Lot 2012

1854-D $1 Gold Liberty. PCGS graded AU-58. One of the finest graded of this rare date. Only 2,935 were coined as the country slipped into Civil War. Most of those were hoarded or lost, as the South went through the brunt of the ensuing war. This one retains much of the original mint color and has gorgeous rich gold colors on both sides. PCGS has graded 6 this high, with just 8 graded higher (best MS-62) so don't expect to find one with much more eye appeal, even if it is technically uncirculated. Well struck and well preserved, and hard to imagine a better one given the circumstances.
Estimated Value $5,500 - 6,500.

Realized $6,038
