Lot 1459

Octavian, 44-27 BC. AR Denarius, issued by Ti. Sempronius Graccus, 40 BC. Very rare! Designated as "Son of the Divine Julius." Youthful bareheaded Octavian right, lightly bearded. Reverse: Standard, Roman Eagle, Plow and Scepter. Sempronia 13. Craw. 525/2; Syd. 1127; C. 523. Nicely centered on oblong flan, with trifling peripheral flatness. Lightly toned, on good metal. With an extraordinarily elegant portrait for this period! Extremely Fine.
Estimated Value $600 - 750.
The symbolism on the back may refer to Octavius' pledge, as son and heir to the deified Julius Caesar, of land and money that he was to give to his veterens as a reward for their services.

Realized $633
