Lot 933

1858. PCGS graded Proof 65 Cameo. CAC. PQ. Around 300 proofs issued. Boldly struck and mostly untoned. Less than 70 known in proof today. Among the finest known today from this elusive and popular issue. The stars and Miss Liberty's hair are very sharp. PCGS has not graded any coins of this date and denomination in the Deep Cameo category, making this lovely Cameo coin one of the finest seen. Proof coin production was starting to take off in the late 1850s, due to growing collector demand. Things slowed down considerably during the Civil War (1861 to 1865) with many denomations showing mintages of below 500 pieces. Today these issues are highly collectible and many are quite rare. Pop 1; 3 finer in PRCA, 1 in 65+, 2 in 66. (PCGS # 84747) Estimate Value $4,000 - 4,500
