Lot 90

1839/6 N-1 R3+ Overdate 9 over 6 (or Inverted 9) PCGS graded VF25, CAC Approved. Frosty medium steel brown and chocolate with some lighter brown toning in protected areas on the reverse. The surfaces are smooth and the eye appeal is excellent, but there are a few small contact marks. The notable marks are a fine diagonal hairline scratch from the coronet to the dentils over star 5, a vertical nick hidden on the front of the ear, and a tiny rim bruise under the 18. LDS with a bisecting die crack across the obverse from the dentils over star 3 through the portrait and star 11 to the dentils at the right. The crack is strong and clearly defined. Our grade is F15. A very nice example of this popular "Redbook" overdate variety, and it comes with a great provenance. The attribution and Neiswinter provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 5; 14 finer for the variety. Estimate Value $2,750 - UP
