Lot 898

1805. LM-1, Rarity 4. NGC graded Mint Error AG Details, Reverse Brockage, Damaged. Clearly struck with considerable hair definition on Liberty, but with scratches and graffiti. The reverse shows the brockage, which is somewhat weakly struck as expected. Needless to say, this is an extraordinary mint error, while early brockages are known they tend to be extremely rare on silver coins from this era. Not only is an 1805 half dime a seldom seen date, but the mintage was low and precious few of these are around in any grade. Add to this the incredible brockage error and you have a coin that is really quite special despite the initials imparted by someone long ago who noticed the unusual nature of this piece. Estimate Value $600 - UP
Ex Bernard Edison Estate.
