Lot 89

1839/6 N-1 R3+ Overdate 9 over 6 (or Inverted 9) PCGS graded VG10. Mostly smooth but the fields and protected areas show extremely fine roughness under rather glossy olive brown toning. The devices are a lighter shade of steel brown and the eye appeal of this cent is decent for the grade. No verdigris, but there are some very faint horizontal hairlines on the cheek. M-LDS with a die crack across the obverse from the dentils over star 3 through the portrait to star 11 but not quite reaching the dentils to the right. The date is strong and the overdate feature is clear. Our grade is F12 sharpness net VG10. The attribution and Neiswinter provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 24 finer for the variety. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
From eBay 3/2004-Jim Neiswinter Collection.
