Lot 82

1817 N-16 R1 15-Star Obverse PCGS graded VG8. Slightly glossy steel brown and chocolate. The reverse is smooth but the obverse is covered with very fine roughness. No verdigris. The notable marks are a rim nick just left of the date and another at star 11. EDS. Struck 15-20% off-center to K-5, and the reverse is an incuse brockage impression of another obverse. Obviously this planchet was inserted into the coining chamber a bit off center and on top of a previously struck cent that was still in the coining chamber. The obverse then was struck by the obverse die while the reverse was pressed into the obverse of the previously struck cent. Our grade is net G6. Another really nice mint error in this collection. The attribution, 20% Off-Center Brockage Reverse error, and Neiswinter provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
Ex H. Craig Hamling 9/2003-Jim Neiswinter Collection.
