Lot 67

1817 N-9 R2 PCGS graded F15. Glossy light to medium steel brown. Smooth and attractive, just worn. The only notable mark is a minor rim bruise at star 1. EDS. This piece was struck twice, and both impressions were reasonably well centered on the planchet. One strike was a reverse brockage and the other was a normal strike with the obverse struck over the normal (raised, not incuse) side of the reverse brockage strike. It appears the normal strike came first followed by the reverse brockage. But regardless of the sequence, this is a spectacular mint error. Graded VG10 net VG8 by Noyes, his photo #31835. Our grade is VG7+. The attribution, Flipover Double Struck Brockage Mint Error, and Neiswinter provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $2,750 - UP
Ex Doug Bird 6/1993-Jim Neiswinter Collection.
