Lot 63
1817 N-7 R3 "Mouse Top" PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous light to medium brown and steel with hints of very faded red in a couple places on the reverse. A frosty, very attractive cent. Just a few microscopic marks including a speck of darker toning on the midpoint of the jawline, a very faint vertical hairline down the cheek, and a small tick on the top of the A in STATES. M-LDS with a rather large "Mouse" break resting on top of the head. The small rim cud breaks at stars 12 & 13 have not formed. Graded MS60 and tied for CC#2 with the ANS example in the Noyes census, his photo #21596. Bland says MS63 and CC#2 in his census. Our grade is MS62. A beautiful example of the popular "Mouse Top" die state, and it comes with an impressive provenance. The attribution and Neiswinter provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
