Lot 475

1847 N-1 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown Off-Center Mint Error. Beautiful lustrous light olive and steel brown with generous traces of faded mint red showing on both sides. A flawless cent except for a small spot of very fine carbon hidden in the hair above the R in LIBERTY. This cent was struck 25% off center to K-7 leaving the entire date off the planchet. Fortunately there are ample die markers to positively attribute this as an 1847 N-1 in E-MDS, die state b. Off-center late date large cents are rare but only a select few exist in this superior state of preservation. Our grade is MS63. A cent for the most-discriminating collector. The attribution and 25% Off-Center Mint Error feature are noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
Ex Stack's 3/29/1973:142-R. Tettenhorst Collection 2018-Tettenhorst Estate (includes the Stack's auction lot envelope).

Realized $5,520
