Lot 370

1830 N-9 R6- NGC VF Details Environmental Damage. Sharpness VF30 but covered with light to moderate corrosion with a dusting of shallow greenish verdigris covering much of the planchet. Otherwise the toning is dark olive brown and chocolate. The only notable contact mark is a dull pinch on the rim at star 11 with a corresponding pinch on the rim over ER in AMERICA. The date is clear and the legends are strong in spite of the obvious roughness. Less than two dozen examples are known of this variety, and it was the rarest die variety known to Howard Newcomb when he wrote the attribution guide for this series (the rarer 1822 N-14 and 1825 N-5 die varieties were discovered later). Our grade is VF30 sharpness net G6. The attribution and Mervis provenance are noted on the NGC label. Estimate Value $1,800 - UP
