Commodus. Æ Sestertius (23.82 g), AD 177-192. Rome, AD 178. Laureate and cuirassed bust of Commodus right. Reverse: Libertas standing facing, head left, holding pileus and scepter. Cf. RIC 1588-90 (bust); Banti 198. Dark brown patina with some grayish-green highlights.

This is the rarest bust type known to Banti for this issue. He cited only one specimen for this number, 198, and although his 199 (itself only known by two examples) is only differentiated by plates on the back of Commodus' cuirass. Very Fine. Estimate Value $300 - 400
