Lot 214

1797 S-120a R3 Reverse of 1795, Plain Edge PCGS graded XF40. Frosty medium chocolate brown with hints of reddish steel and olive brown in a few of the protected areas on both sides, mostly at TED-STA. The surfaces are smooth and nearly void of contact marks. The best identifying mark, and it is barely visible with a glass, is a thin diagonal planchet fissure in the field above the hair ribbon (as struck). Nicely struck EDS, Breen state I, prior to any die cracks or crumbling on the obverse. A beautiful example of the 1797 Plain Edge with Single Leaves at the top of the wreath variety. Our grade is VF25. And it comes with a wonderful provenance. The attribution and Trollan provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 4 finer for the variety, 2 in 45, 2 in 58. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
