1796 S-101 R5- Draped Bust PCGS graded VF35. Slightly glossy light olive and steel brown with hints of reddish steel brown toning in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and there only a few trivial marks. The notable ones are a faint hairline scratch from the forehead down to the shoulder, two tiny planchet chips at the dentils before the chin and bust, a couple more even smaller ones on the bust, and a light scratch over ED-S. MDS, Breen state II, with light die clashmarks on the obverse and a faint die crack through the top of MERIC. Struck very slightly off center to K-5.5 causing some weakness on the bottom edge of the date but everything else is strong. Graded VF25 net F15 and tied for CC#8 in the Noyes census, his photo #26747. Bland says net F15 as well and tied for CC#11 in his census. Our grade is VF20 net F15+. The attribution and Jules Reiver provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; 3 finer for the variety, 1 in 45, 1 in 50, 1 in 62. Estimate Value $6,000 - UP
