Cappadocian Kingdom. Ariarathes I(?). Æ (9.94 g), 330-322 BC. Head of Ariarathes I(?) right, wearing bashlik. Reverse: [IPE monogram] above, Artemis kneeling right on back of stag right, grasping it by the antlers and slashing its throat. A.M. Simonetta p. 39, "Possibly Cappadocian," 1 corr. (monogram); Gorney & Mosch 215, 901. Extremely Rare - the third known specimen. Dark green and brown patina with some red. Very Fine / Fine. Estimate Value $200 - 300
Of the three known examples of this coin, a similar one is in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, and the other, a much nicer example, appeared on the market in 2013 (see Gorney & Mosch 215, 14 October 2013, 901 [unsold on an estimate of Euro 750]).
