Lot 1436

1877. PCGS graded MS-61. Rich golden toning. Reflective fields on both sides. Only 1,468 struck, and this is one of the finer examples seen with full Mint State surfaces that show just a few scattered handling marks. The strike is sharp and pleasing. Notice the date which is placed midway above the bow and DOLLARS, as needed to confirm this is a business strike. From the original tiny mintage of 1,468 perhaps as many as 200 exist today, many mishandled and most showing some degree of circulation. Not so here, as this example was set aside at the time of issue and carefully preserved since that time. An elegant and important offering for the date collector of this challenging series. Pop 7; 6 finer, 4 in 62, 1 in 64, 1 in 64+. (PCGS # 7999) Estimate Value $22,000 - UP
