Lot 1394

1852-C. NGC graded MS-65. Among the finest known. This example shows an extra fragment of a post below the 1 in the date, and is one of two die pairings known to produce this rare Charlotte issue. The surfaces are satin smooth with ample luster to please the eye and the strike is sharper than commonly seen. The fields and devices are wonderfully free of contact marks, keeping the grade at the gem level. An astonishing coin to find so well preserved from this Southern mint. Only 9,434 struck. Pop 5; 1 finer in 66. (PCGS # 7518) Estimate Value $18,000 - 19,000

Realized $25,200
