Lot 1382

Original, Antique 19th Century "Eagle and Eaglets " Cast Iron Mechanical Bank, Scarce. Original antique cast iron mechanical bank from the J & E Stevens Company, originally marketed as "The American Eagle Bank" in Cromwell, Connecticut and patented in 1888 One places a coin in the eagle's beak and presses lever under tail feathers. The eagle leans forward, beak opens and drops coin into the bank while at the same time, eaglets rise up slightly and open their beaks. Impressive, working, mechanical action but placing a coin in the beak also requires pressing the lever. Minor paint wear off the feathers as well as the green of the nest. Choice condition for this bank. 6¾ x 4" and designed by Charles Henn. No paint touch up, coin lock on base still present, and all mechanical components original. (one glass eye missing) A scarce mechanical bank. Estimate Value $500 - UP
