Tweed, William M. "Boss" -- Two Documents Signed, One Civil War Date. (1823-1878) American politician who controlled political patronage in New York City as "boss'" of the corrupt Tammany Hall political machine and who embezzled large amounts of money from New York City. Two documents signed. The first is one page, 7 x 8¼", New York, Mar. 20, 1865. Approving an expenditure of $208.33 for Anthony Eickhoff for services as translator to the Courts of Record for the month of March 1865. Handsomely matted with an image of Tweed and a biographical plaque and framed to an overall size of 16 x 22". With a second document signed, one page, 14 x 8¼", July 14, 1870. This is a form that was signed in triplicate for the apropriation of lamps and gas, to be paid to Kuper & Co. The ink has faded on the details but Tweed's signature is quite clear. Matted with an image of Tweed and a biographical plaque and framed to an overall size of 23½ x 26". Both fine. Estimate Value $300 - UP
