Willis, Allee. Those Damn Women. Mixed Media in Shadowbox. 27¾ x 48¾ x 4 5/8 in., 1988. Featuring a large photo of a primly-dressed woman holding a machine gun. In the foreground are pumped-up figures of men, with wires and light bulbs, match books and other odds and ends attached to them. Behind them are smaller cut-outs of glamorous 1950s women. Writing is scrawled on the back board, beginning: "Those Damn Women! they want everything. Your time. Your money. Lots of money. Oh yes, your love…" Included with this artwork is the program for The Moving Picture Ball '87 with cover artwork by Willis; the ball honored Bette Midler. Outside shipping required.
Willis is a Grammy Award winning, and Emmy and Tony nominated Los Angeles-based songwriter and artist whose multi-media artwork has been featured all over the world and whose songs have sold over 50,000,000 copies. In 1995 "I'll Be There," the theme song from "Friends" was nominated for an Emmy and became one of the best-selling television themes of all time. She co-authored the Broadway musical version of "The Color Purple," based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize winning book and the film by Steven Spielberg; the musical opened on Broadway in December 2005, and continues on national tour.
