Chinese Sancai Pottery Figures of Qilin, 18th/19th Century. Acquired from Vermeer & Griggs in Georgia, three late 18th or early 19th century Chinese Sancai pottery figures of qilin. Qilin are Chinese mythological creatures that have been interpreted in a wide variety of appearances taking on elements of deer, dragons, fish and even giraffs In concept, not too dissimilar to the unicorn in Western culture. Offered are three such figures. First a matched pair, their heads slightly turned towards each other. They stand 9" tall and 8" in length glazed in greens, brown and tans. The third is in a deep umber glaze almost with green and tan accents, sitting and slightly smaller at 8" high and 6½" in length. All are in excellent condition with no visible cracks, chips or repairs and of course are charming and appealing. Estimate Value $500 - UP
