Lovely Qianlong Glass Vase Carved Red to Imperial Yellow, Overlay of Dragons and Phoenix. Qianlong Glass (Also known as Peking or Tao Liao Ping) is a form of Chinese glassware that originated in 18th century Peking, China originally used in the fabrication of glass snuff bottles, "Peking glass" has since been appropriated for a number of uses and continues to be produced. Peking glass is an overlay carved glass created by layering material around a core, similar to Cameo glass. Peking glass is often made with different colored layers of glass, creating contrast when the outer layers are carved away. Historically, many pieces of Peking glass were made with yellow glass ("Imperial Yellow") due to the color's strong association with the Qing Imperial clan. Offered is a fine, impressive, 20th century example of this style of glass work. A vase with red glass overlay of Phoenix and Dragon expertly carved to yellow. Vase stands 11" tall and 4" wide with no chips, cracks or repairs. Quite a handsome piece. Estimate Value $500 - UP
