Keller, Helen -- TLS Soliciting Funds For the Blind. (1880-1968) American author and educator who was blind and deaf. Alexander Graham Bell examined her at the age of six and sent her to Anne Sullivan, a young teacher from the Perkins Institution for the Blind in Boston, who opened up the world to her. Typed letter signed, one page, 10 x 6½", on personal stationery, Forest Hills, L.I., New York, Jan. 21, 1925. To Mr. Cellarius in Cincinnati, soliciting funds for "The Helen Keller Fund" for the American Foundation for the Blind. "Having your sight, you cannot imagine what it means to live always deprived, always in the shadow of disaster…When men and women are blinded in adult life they lose their independence, their place in the world…." Paper is toned, else fine. Matted with biographical information, a plaque, and a small image of Keller and framed to an overall size of 15¾ x 18½". Estimate Value $400 - UP
