Gounod, Charles and Arthur Foote-- ALS Re the Rossini Prize & AMQS. Charles Gounod (1818 - 1893) French composer of numerous operas, including Romeo and Juliet. Autograph letter signed "Ch. Gounod", one page, 7 x 4½", Thursday, October 7, 1882. "Dear Friend, Have the goodness to send me the motto of Competitor number six for the Rossini Prize, so that I can note it in the report of the section which must be read on Saturday at the Academy…" A couple of penciled notes in another hand, else fine. With Arthur Foote (1853-1937) Organist; classical composer. Autograph musical quotation signed, "Faithfully yours--Arthur Foote July 31, 1892," 5 x 8". The AMQS is identified in Foote's hand as "Piano quarter - op. 23." Fine. Estimate Value $200 - UP
