Lot 89

1845 N-13 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Highly lustrous bright mint red toning down to steel brown on the highpoints, about 75% of the red remaining, mostly on the reverse. Would rate a higher grade but there are several small spots of dark toning (a few with microscopic specks of carbon in their center) scattered about both sides. The notable spots are at the dentils over star 6, on the bottom of the E in ONE, and on the rim at A in STATES. Nicely struck EDS, die state a. The fine die lines on the reverse are clear and there are no rim cuds. Great color and luster; a gem if not for the small spots. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#2 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Holmes provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 1 in 65. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
