Excellent Antique, 19th Century, Original Cast Iron "Paddy & The Pig" Mechanical Bank, Scarce. Original 19th century cast iron bank manufactured by the J & E Stevens Company in Cromwell, Connecticut patented in 1882 but likely not produced until 1886 when it first appeared in and advertisement. One places a coin on the flat surface of the pig's snout, presses lever behind the leprechaun, Paddy, which forces the pig's leg to kick the coin into Paddy's mouth, tongue extending, while his eyes roll upwards. Original paint mostly intact and with its original lock twist on base to empty coins. No replaced parts or re-painting and very scarce in this condition. 8 x 7 x 3½", bank was designed by James H. Bowen, with company name, date and patent number stamped on base. An excellent example of this highly collected and prized, Victorian era bank. Estimate Value $750 - UP

Realized $990
