Lot 139

1853 N-13 R1 Repunched 1 PCGS graded MS64 Red, CAC Approved. Beautiful lustrous mint red, the original color covering 98% of the planchet. Just a few trivial marks including a microscopic speck of brown toning just right of the nostril and faint hints of an old fingerprint between stars 11 & 12. M-LDS, die state b. The repunching under the base of the 1 is visible and the fields on both sides show flowlines. A premium example of this common die variety, perfect for a choice type or date set. Our grade is MS64+, very close to gem MS65, and tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
Ex Stack's 9/4/1991:64-Jack Wadlington (the Twin Leaf Collection), Stack's Bowers 7/2015:2635-William Hamilton Collection (includes the Wadlington collection envelope and both lot tickets).

Realized $2,640
