Lot 112

1848 N-33 R5- PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous bluish steel brown with 15% of the original mint red remaining. Would rate a slightly higher grade except for a vertical scuff on the highpoints inside the wreath and a streak of darker toning down through the center of the reverse. Sharply struck E-MDS, die state a (there is no state b for this variety). The obverse fields are frosty rather than reflective indicating microscopic die wear. Excellent eye appeal for the grade, and the obverse is choice. Our grade is MS60, CC#5 in the Grellman census for this tough die variety. The attribution and Holmes provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $1,250 - UP
