Group of 18 Poets, Including Joyce Kilmer, Whittier, Tennyson, Longfellow, Henley, Leigh Hunt, Archibald MacLeish, and Others. Group of 18 poets: Leigh Hunt, a small 1776 PPDS from a lending library; Joyce Kilmer, signature matted with a printed copy of "Trees" and his image, and a small Christmas card with greeting from his wife, Alice Kilmer; signature only of H. W. Longfellow, John G. Whittier, Tennyson, and Carl Sandburg (matted with a photo); Lawrence Ferlinghetti, signed photo from a publication; Robert Frost, signature and date (1952); John Masefield, signature on his business card; W.E. Henley, cut closing and signature from a letter; O. W. Holmes, signature and sentiment, matted with engraving; Eugene Field, signature on a small card re renting a carriage, as a member of the Union League Club; William Cullen Bryant, signature and date (Feb. 27, 1869); Dorothy Parker, 1948 TLS as Chairman of the Spanish Refugee Appeal; Ogden Nash, 1959 TLS saying he has never received an interesting rejection letter; James Dickey, a 1983 TLS sending a signed photo (not present); and Allen Ginsburg, the first nine lines of "Howl," typed, with one holograph correction, followed by an ANS saying, "This is an idiot idea to request a writer sign a fragment opening of a poem. It makes me feel like an 'object' at the moment. Allen Ginsburg June 7, '80." Lastly, Archibald MacLeish sent three typed copies of his poem "Psyche With the Candle" to Michael Hecht, two with holograph corrections and an ANS on each to Michael Hecht; one admonishes him for not having caught one of the mistakes and a note on a second page corrects "fevor" to "fervor" and adds a holograph note, "If your textbook has this error please ask your teacher to request a correction." The third copy of the poem includes all of the corrections and is signed, "Archibald MacLeish / signed for Michael Hecht" at the bottom. Including return address on transmittal envelope, there are four MacLeish signatures. Overall fine. Estimate Value $400 - UP
