U.S.S. Iwo Jima (LPH-2) Apollo 13 Recovery Crew Jacket and Baseball Cap. Property of a crew member aboard the recovery ship U.S.S. Iwo Jima for the Apollo 13 splashdown April 17, 1970. Apollo 13's lunar landing was aborted after an oxygen tank exploded two days into the mission, crippling the Service Module. The safe return of the crew (Lovell, Swigert and Haise), despite great hardship caused by limited power, loss of cabin heat, shortage of potable water, and the critical need to make makeshift repairs to the carbon dioxide removal system, is considered one of NASA's greatest triumphs. Offered is a crew member's crew cap and jacket. Cap is in excellent condition, only very light wear and a size 7 1/8, where the jacket does appear to have some wear and a few washes, size M. Estimate Value $300 - UP

Realized $1,020
