Paul Haney; "The Voice of NASA" 16 Handwritten Transcribed Notes While Armstrong & Aldrin On Moon, + Press Pool Memo (1929-2009) Paul Haney was known as the voice of NASA mission control for his live commentary during the Gemini and Apollo space flights in the 1960s. It was the voice of Mr. Haney as director of public affairs that broadcast audiences heard live from the Houston control room, explaining what was going on. The calmness that the public heard from 1965 to 1969, as Mr. Haney announced tense events like launchings and difficult recoveries, contrasted with some behind-the scenes conflict. Offered are 16 pages of quickly written notes taken by Haney on a 6 x 3" shirt pocket sized note pad during Neil Armstrong's and Buzz Aldrin's walk on the moon. Clearly in the control room, Haney writes regarding what he is watching and hearing from the Astronauts as well as individuals in Mission Control. There are many great things to be discovered in these notes, our favorites are the description of the plumes of dust as the LM lands and Haney's observations: "Aldrin does most of the talking as usual". Rare and unique. Also an original memo dated April 29, 1969 to Director of Flight Crew Operations from Haney listing the names of individuals approved for pool positions to cover a review with Armstrong and Aldrin, co-signed by Deke Slayton also quite scarce. Estimate Value $1,750 - UP
