Wright, Orville -- Orville Agrees to Write an Article on His Brother, Wilbur, For Encyclopedia Britannica (1871-1948) American aviator, co-inventor of the airplane with his brother Wilbur (1867-1912). On December 17, 1903, with Orville at the stick, they were the first to achieve powered, controlled and sustained flight. Typed letter signed "Orville Wright," one page, on letterhead engraved "Orville Wright / Dayton, Ohio," 8½ x 6¼", March 31, 1928. To Mr. F.H. Hooper at The Encyclopaedia Britannica in New York. In part: "Please pardon my delay….For the past three months I have been head over heels in work, but I now hope within a few days to be able to prepare the article on 'Wilbur Wright' for the Encyclopaedia Britannica." Light toning overall, else fine. Matted and framed to 11¾ x 9¼". Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
