1930 Zeppelin Race Winners, Akron, Ohio Airdock, Panoramic Photo. Panoramic silver gelatin photo. 32 x 9.5 in., signed by photographer H. D. Verwerk in lower right corner. Remarkable photo records the dealers who won prizes for the Goodyear-Zeppelin Company's annual "Zeppelin Race" which rewarded those who had the highest sales over a two month period across the country. But the appeal here is the enormous Goodyear-Zeppelin Airdock looming large in the background captured in an early panoramic photo. Built in 1929, the almost unbelievably huge Goodyear Airdock in Akron, Ohio, was created as a space where blimps, airships, and dirigibles could be constructed. Evidently building such a massive space created problems, such as indoor rain, and putting the whole thing on rollers so that it could expand and contract with the seasons. Photo is rolled and shows only minor evidence of handling. Framed, piece would display beautifully. Estimate Value $75 - UP
