Complete Polished Ammonite With Sutures. Ammonites were a squid-like animal that was covered with a shell that contained inside growth chambers. They became extinct 66 million years ago at the same time as dinosaurs. This complete large brown 7 inch diameter Placentioceras sp. ammonite has been polished revealing its beautiful suture patterns which are unique like fingerprints to each ammonite. In addition, this 75 million year old ammonite from the Pierre Shales of South Dakota preserves the fossilized red and green iridescent mother of pearl at the center of the ammonite.
