[Garfield and Lincoln] Cyrus Fields 1881 ALS re Mrs. Garfield's and Mrs. Lincoln's Pensions. Autograph letter signed "Cyrus W. Fields," one page, 8 x 5", New York, Dec. 10, 1881. Less than three months after President Garfield's death, financier Cyrus Fields writes to J. Stanley Brown, who had been Garfield's private secretary: "…I hope Congress will do its plain duty in the matter of the pension to Mrs. Garfield & the increase of Mrs. Lincoln's pension…." Fields would raise a $350,000 trust fund for Lucretia Garfield and her children. Mary Todd Lincoln received a $3,000 annual pension in 1869 from President Grant; it was finally raised to $5,000 months before her death on July 16, 1882. Estimate Value $200 - UP
