Brandeis, Louis D. - TLS to a Congressman, Mentioning President Wilson (1856-1941) First Jewish Supreme Court Justice. Typed letter signed, one page, 10 ½ x 8", on personal letterhead, Boston, June 7, 1913. To Congressman Henry George, Jr., stating that Mr. Herbert J. Browne "possesses at least certain of the qualities much needed on the District of Columbia Commission," and offering to give his opinion in regard to Browne should President Wilson request it. Wilson would nominate Brandeis to the Supreme Court in 1916. Although his nomination was bitterly contested, Brandeis became the first Jewish Justice. Estimate Value $200 - UP
