Lot 555

Roman, 2nd-3rd Century AD, Unguentarium and Conical Glass Beaker. Two pieces of ancient Roman Judaea glass. The first is an ungentarium of light green glass, everted flange like rim, cylindrical neck, piriform body and patches of iridescence. Standing 5" tall know this piece was found broken and has been painstakingly glued back together, a marvel in itself. One very tiny piece missing. The other is a conical glass beaker, fashioned by the process of free-blowing where the glassmaker forms the shape of the beaker by inflating a ball of molten glass without a mold. Probably used for drinking and/or for oil lamps. Again this piece was found broken and remarkably well restored. Beaker is 6¼ x 4 x 4" and does have small patches of iridescence. Note stands are for photographic purposes and not included. Again pieces restored professionally and do display nicely. Estimate Value $400 - UP
