The subject of Mercury was very popular with merchants and businessmen invoking the powers of the god to the wearer and a classic symbol for trust, trade and friendship. Intaglios not only were used to seal private documents but also for transactions of trade and business. This Roman intaglio of red jasper is in superb conditon with no damage or restoration. 12 mm x 9½ mm. Estimate Value $500 - UP
