Lot 501

Han Dynasty Terracotta Bull with White Slip and Traces of Paint ca. 206 BC - 220 AD. Striking and quite handsome Han Dynasty terracotta bull (206 BC - 220 AD). Absolutely beautiful detail in the head, with the contours of the body and shape perfect. There are traces of white slip and of the original paint in the nostrils and one ear which indicate originally very deep reds. All four legs have been lost to time, but bull sits on custom made, black metal stand and cradle and remains an exceptionally appealing piece. Bull is almost 10" long from tail to snout, about 3" thick and stands from base to hump at 7". Estimate Value $500 - UP
Doyle Auctions.
