A Pair of Russian Gardner Porcelain Plates with Floral Motifs, circa 1880. Very scarce pair of Gardner porcelain plates ca. 1880s. Gardner Porcelain Works was founded in Verbiki, outside Moscow, by the English-born Francis Gardner in 1766. Empress Catherine II commissioned Gardner Porcelain Works to make the four famous Order Services in the 1770s and 1780s. The Gardner family retained ownership of the factory until 1891 and produced porcelain tablewares and figurines. Plates are 9" in diameter in cranberry with lovely handpainted floral centers. Red Gardner mark under both plates. Overall fine condition with modest areas of wear commensurate to porcelain 125+ years old, mostly the plate rim edges with gilt mostly missing, otherwise gorgeous and rich colors.
