Dirk Van Erp, Important San Francisco Art & Crafts Studio (1909-1977) Candlestick Centerpiece. Dirk Van Erp (1860 -1933) William van Erp (maker) (1910–1977). Family run and significant artist's studio in San Francisco founded in 1909. The studio remained under the direction of his son until 1977 and his works are in private collections and museums including the de Young Fine Art Museum. Van Erp made hammered copper accessories, but was best known for his lamps. His son carried the family tradition and introduced copper pieces heavily plated in sterling silver which are highly prized. Offered is a stunning, hand hammered, plated sterling silver over copper Art & Crafts centerpiece. It consists of an center oval base flanked by two matching bases each with a crescent end to accent the center oval. Each are centered with a recessed cup to accommodate a single tapered candle. This is a radical and extremely appealing approach to a table setting. Each piece is signed and stamped with the van Erp large windmill maker's mark and San Francisco. In fine used condition, some scratches that in no way detract appreciably from this centerpiece. Center oval is 9 x 5½" and the two flanking bases 6½ x 4½ ". Estimate Value $350 - UP
