Rare 1874 Ketubah from Herat, Afghanistan, Exquisitely Presented. The Ketubah is a special type of Jewish prenuptial agreement and considered an integral part of a traditional Jewish marriage, and outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom, in relation to the bride. This Ketubah, dating from 1874, is from Herat, Afghanistan and features handwritten text in Hebrew which is set within a watercolor of an architectural façade decorated with scrolling flowers. Ketubah is 18½ x 16"and is in quite fine condition. We note paper loss 18 mm x 16 mm towards lower left corner limited to the floral border and another, half as small towards top left corner, that in no way impact the text and are hard to spot. Otherwise colors are vivid and the Ketubah is professionally presented in complimenting red linen mat and gilt wood frame. Overall dimensions, 28 x 24" with small engraved plaque identifying the piece. Estimate Value $750 - UP
The Collector, 10 King David Street, Jerusalem.
